Argentine social realism mixes with stylized gunplay in this film from director Adrián Caetano. Oso (Julio Chávez) is an inexpressive, heavyset convict who tries to start a new life after being released from jail. His young daughter Alicia (Agostina Lage) has forgotten him and her mother (Soledad Villamil) has long since found a new man--the weak but faithful Sergio (Luis Machín)--with whom she and Alicia share a small home in a rundown Buenos Aires neighborhood. Oso tries to reestablish himself in Alicia's life, but his past keeps getting in the way, eventually causing him to take one final, dangerous job for his scheming old crime boss, the Turk. While the film's mythic western story arc of violence and redemption is nothing new, it's still powerful and moving thanks to Caetano's skill in capturing the subtle beauty of his rundown locations and struggling characters. As with his earlier BOLIVIA, this film provides a nonjudgmental window into Argentina's financial problems, revealing how a proud, richly cultured nation has been driven to extreme measures by economic depression. Performances are naturalistic and strong, with Chávez a standout as the quintessential loner, Oso. With almost no changes in his character's glum exterior, he manages to hint at a concealed wealth of deep emotion; his scenes with Lage are quietly heartbreaking.

Claire vient d'être frappée par la foudre alors qu'elle se promenait en forêt. Souffrant de légers troubles de mémoire, la jeune femme de trente ans est accompagnée par sa soeur aînée dans un centre pour amnésiques dénommé Les Écureuils. Ce centre a accueilli autrefois la mère des deux soeurs, avant que celle-ci ne décède de la maladie d'Elsheimer. Après quelques jours d'hospitalisation, Claire découvre l'univers curieux et décalé qui constitue le centre des Ecureuils où tous, des patients aux praticiens, semblent atteints de troubles de la mémoire. La jeune femme réservée fait, un peu plus tard, la connaissance de Philippe.
Two people looking for an answer to their problems with memory loss find love along the way in this comedy-drama from France. Claire (Isabelle Carre) is a woman in her early '30s whose mother recently passed on due to Alzheimer's Syndrome; in a bitterly ironic twist of fate, Claire was struck by lightning, and ever since her memory has begun to fade away. Needing help for her condition, Claire enters a special clinic for people with memory-loss problems. Located in a large house in the country, the clinic is supervised by Dr. Christian (Bernard Le Coq), a quirky physician who thinks none of his patients can tell he's having an affair with one of his assistants, Marie (Zabou Breitman). While at the clinic, Claire meets Philippe (Bernard Campan), a noted wine expert whose memory has begun to fail him. Claire and Philippe become infatuated with one another while at the clinic, and when the two are released, they decide to move in together. As they try to set up housekeeping, it becomes obvious that while Claire and Philippe have refused to give in to their condition, it is still having an unavoidable impact on their lives.

По рассказу Стивена Кинга "Рита Хэйворт и искупление в тюрьме Шоушенк". Энди Дюфрейн (Тим Роббинс), вице-президент солидного банка, приговаривается к двум пожизненным заключениям по обвинению в убийстве жены и ее любовника. Он отбывает заключение в тюрьме Шоушенк, где проходит все круги ада, проявляя недюжинное мужество, упорство и хладнокровие. Повествование идет от лица чернокожего зэка по имени Ред (Фриман), с которым Энди крепко сдружился. Благодаря своему мощному интеллекту и финансовым талантам экс-банкир становится неофициальным помощником тюремного начальства, что дает ему возможность пользоваться определенными поблажками и привилегиями. Но самый большой сюрприз новоявленный граф Монте-Кристо уготовил под финал (см. название). Был бы фильм минут на двадцать короче, цены бы ему не было. Тем не менее фильм собрал много номинаций: за лучший фильм, за лучшую мужскую роль (Морган Фримэн), лучший адаптированный сценарий, операторскую работу, монтаж, музыку, звук.

In Vera Cruz in the 1940s, Nacho, an Indian, waits tables at Don Lázaro's café at Hotel Ofélia.
