Eventually, Fella's Fairy Godfather (Ed Wynn) shows up to convince him that he has a shot at winning the Princess himself.

Dans ce petit immeuble du 14e arrondissement, à Paris - à l'escalier C pour être exact - toutes sortes d'histoires s'entrecroisent : celles de locataires qui sont jeunes pour la plupart, se connaissent bien, vont les uns chez les autres, avec une chaleur et une amitié qui n'ont plus beaucoup cours... Il y a ainsi Forster Lafont, jeune critique d'art, fils d'un grand diplomate, qui joue les cyniques; son ami Bruno, un dilettante qui n'a jamais ni travail ni argent, mais va prendre un nouveau départ avec l'arrivée dans l'immeuble d'une jeune femme Charlotte - et de sa petite fille Anita; Claude, homosexuel qui vient d'être plaqué par son ami Al; Joss, un typographe qui rentre ivre tous les matins; Béatrice et Virgile, jeune couple type qui n'en finit pas de se chamailler, de préférence dans les couloirs ! Et puis, une dame seule, beaucoup plus âgée : Mme Bernhardt.
