Compared to that set’s relatively low-key approach, the new record is, as Moore puts it, “a cohesive stripped-down blues-rock machine.”Close As You Get includes jump blues and urban blues classics (e.g., Chuck Berry’s “Thirty Days” and Sonny Boy Williamson’s “Eyesight To The Blind”) as well as Moore’s own compositions, a twin-barreled tip of the hat to his influences “yet filled with the kind of chiseled bravado that only experience can afford.”
