AvaxHome Special : The Beatles - Discography (41 Albums)

The Beatles - Discography (41 Albums)
MP3@320Kbps | Remastered by Dr. Ebbetts
41 Albums | 614 Tracks | TT 1:03:48:51 | iTunes-compliant tags | 4.2 GB

Dr. Ebbetts specializes in releasing digital remasterings from long-deleted and hard-to-obtain vinyl records, particularly issues from the audiophile Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs (MFSL) label. Although the Ebbetts catalogue has many artists, it is most known for Beatles CDs transferred from the best quality MFSL releases, US releases and mono vinyl sources. While lables like Millenium, BEAT, Mirror Spock and Fabulous Sound Labs (FSL) also issue 'needle drops' of Beatles vinyl, Dr. Ebbetts is regarded by many audiophiles as being the highest quality. For those interested in the technical, one source close to the Dr says that Ebbetts says that he uses no noise reduction and that there's no magic formula...just a good ear and patience.

Gabriella Cilmi - Lessons To Be Learned (2008)
Label: Warner Australia | All Covers | MP3 @256kbps | Time: 43:54 | 88.1 MB
Genre: Rock/Pop

With LESSONS TO BE LEARNED finished but still months away from release, word started to get out that something very special was in the offing and things started happening quickly for Gabriella. There were gigs around London and she was asked to record a cover version of the Martha & The Muffins’ classic “Echo Beach” as the theme song of a new British TV drama of the same name. Then, at the end of last year, the producers of Later With Jools Holland, one of the most popular and distinguished music shows on British TV, got to hear an advance copy of “Sweet About Me” and insisted that Gabriella appear on their end of year show, despite the fact that the single was still ages away from release.

“That was awesome,” beams Gabriella. “I’ve always watched the show and thought I want to go on it one day. It’s the coolest music show around because it’s only about the music. It was so funny walking in there because it felt like I’d walked into my television set. It was really fun. I was just smiling all day. It was cool. I met Ronnie Wood from the Rolling Stones. He shook my hand and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I nearly died.”

A taste of many extraordinary things to come, no doubt. Rest assured, “Sweet About Me” will shortly blow away everyone, everywhere. But it’s just a sampler from an extraordinary debut album from a gifted new artist.

LESSONS TO BE LEARNED is the album that will make Gabriella Cilmi one of the most talked about new artists of 2008.

Dylanesque Live: The London Sessions not only captures Ferry and his band performing the album live (for the camera – not an audience), it also gives insight into the rationale for and creation process of the project. Thankfully, as the interviews with Ferry make clear, his reasons for making the album were noble. As he explains, Dylan is an artist like Donne or Shakespeare, one whose work grows in mystique and quality with the passage of time. In essence, the versions on Dylanesque are Ferry’s interpretations of Dylan’s songs, much like an actor would interpret a Shakespearean monologue.

As a long-time and avid fan of Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry, I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical of the thought of Bryan Ferry doing a whole album of Dylan music. But - his interpretations of each song is brilliant! Ferry puts his heart and soul into each song. It is obvious that he is 'into' it. He plays more harmonica than ever before, and is 'soulful'. The band, overall, is tight and each version of Dylan's songs, actually, improves somewhat on the originals.

Genre: Indie-Pop, Pop-Rock

Debut album from young Dublin indie pop act inspired by soul, classic singer-songwriters and American radio rock. Their soulful, emotional songwriting recalls the lyrical storytelling of Irish greats such as Christy Moore and U2, but with a strictly ultramodern aesthetic that coats the songs in glittering production values. Includes the singles 'We Cry' and 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved'. Enjoy!

NME (Magazine) - Ranked #28 in The NME "Top 30 Heartbreak Albums"

After the success of his glam-rockish TRANSFORMER, the expectation was that Lou Reed would plow deeper into commercial territory. As usual, Reed delighted in confounding expectations. BERLIN is a song cycle that uses the decadence of its namesake and some Brecht/Weill-esque orchestrations to tell a story of two psychically damaged people and their doomed relationship. (Aided by Berlin producer Bob Ezrin, Pink Floyd would attempt a similar feat several years later on THE WALL).
