Avec trois albums originaux seulement en vingt-cinq ans de carrière, Laurent Voulzy est avant tout passé maître dans l'art du single : le tube qui vient se loger au creux de votre oreille au printemps pour n'en ressortir que lorsque l'été est oublié. Cette compilation offre, dans l'ordre chronologique, toutes ces perles pop de 1977 à 1988, de "Rockollection", promenade dans la nostalgie collective à "Le Soleil donne", bossa antiraciste et sensuelle. Entre ces deux classiques, défilent quinze autres chansons, quinze autres textes du complice Alain Souchon. L'occasion de redécouvrir les talents de mélodiste et d'arrangeur de Voulzy, qui semble avoir plus écouté les "B" anglo-saxons (Beatles, Beach Boys, Byrds) que nos Brel, Brassens et Bécaud. Perfectionniste à l'extrême, il a su se hisser à la hauteur de ses modèles en créant une pop française, simple, sans complexe et touchante. Le public l'a bien compris, qui l'a plébiscité à l'occasion d'un grand sondage national en hissant "Belle-Ile-en-mer, Marie-Galante" au rang de plus belle chanson française du vingtième siècle. The title here is, of course, not entirely accurate. None of Orbison's '80s material is here, which means no duets with Emmylou Harris or kd lang, and nothing from his Travelling Wilbury/final-stellar-solo-album period. This is, however, pretty much the best of Orbison's '60s tenure at Monument Records, and within those confines it's something of an embarrassment of riches, with all the big, paranoid operatic ballads that Orbison more or less patented--"Running Scared," "Only the Lonely," "Crying,"--along with more conventional, albeit ethereally lovely songs like "Blue Bayou" and "In Dreams." There's also a smattering of rockers including "Pretty Woman," whose opening guitar riff is by now imprinted on the basic genetic material of most of the human race. Obviously, essential listening.

The personal solo hits collection by Marie Fredriksson (of Roxette). Followed by the hugely successful antligen sommarturné 2000 after numerous requests for a tour from all over the world. Compiled by Marie Fredriksson herself from some personal favourite songs and from solo singles that were released between 1984 and 1997.

This is another fine release out of the famous "Aluminium Series" of the Mobile Fidelity Sound Laboratories (MFSL). IMO their release is still the best sounding version of Al Stewart's "Year Of The Cat". Which is also without a doubt his Masterpiece and a gem in Popmusic. A perfect combination.
