The organ is the mightiest instrument, capable of a huge dynamic range from the quietest pianissimo to the most glorious fortissimo. Of course, it has long had religious associations, and there's no denying that organ music sounds best in the reverberant acoustic of a church or cathedral. This has moved composers to some of their most spiritual and grand utterances, but this doesn't exclude people of any religion, or none at all, from enjoying organ music. French organ music is probably the highest achievement of the genre.
