Bach Complete Works

Johann Sebastian Bach: Complete Works - Hänssler Edition Bachakademie
2000 | APE + CUE | Booklets, Front Covers: 143 MB | 171 CDs: 51 GB

A very different set than Teldec's Bach 2000. The Hanssler Bachakademie, supervised by Helmut Rilling, is not HIP (historic instruments performance). The orchestras are warm and lush (but not huge). The soloists are, in general, extraordinary. The tempos are sane. Hanssler has included fragments of some incomplete BWV's that are not included in the Teldec set; a minor plus but appealing. I found I preferred these traditional instruments and the daring using of forte-piano in place of harpsichord on a few of the recordings (flute sonatas). Highlights for me are The Well-Tempered Clavier Books 1 and 2, Musical Offering, Flute Sonatas, The Motets. I also found I prefer these Cantatas recordings to any other, including the new Koopman, Suzuki and the well-known Leonhart-Harnoncourt. While not the newest recordings, the sound is warmer which I prefer to the new state-of-the-art HIP recordings. Although most of the Cantatas are older recordings, much of the Hanssler Bachakademie edition is newly recorded for this project and the sound is consistent and excellent.

For lovers of flute music I've listed the contents of Vol 42, The Answer To Everything (flute, that is). So you can see what you're getting in your download.
Note that the cue sheets (i.e., split APE files) have some misspellings and on the 3rd CD some tracks listed as BWV 1033 are actually 1038. I've corrected this in the track listing below. Vol. 42 contains 4 CDs (BA Vols 124, 118, 121 CD1, 121 CD2). [BA = Bachakademie]

Note that Bach's famous Suite in B Minor BWV 1067 (which features the flute) is not found in Vol 42 - you will have to download Vol 38 (another 1Gb!), which I assume contains (BA Vol 126 - Brandenburg Concertos) and (BA Vol 132 - Orchestral Suites)

These 2 web pages also have the full and correct listing:

Posted By: vidra Date: 28 Jan 2008 12:21
I have them all. Which one should I upload?
Posted By: jake06 Date: 28 Jan 2008 19:32
May I propose we put a system in use, similar to that of the Great Pianists of the Century set:

People who have big parts of the collection available to let us know which volumes they are willing to re-upload, so that we can gradually have the whole collection again?

Just a thought...
Posted By: vidra Date: 28 Jan 2008 21:47
OK, I've started to reupload the whole collection. On the request of noizone, I will upload in this (somewhat strange) order: First vols 13 & 15, then vols 19-43, and then the rest, if it is necessary. Tomorrow I'll indicate you the urls of the first vols to begin the download, and then gradually I'll upload and publish the rest as well.

"unexpected end of archive"
could you please check the archive?
Posted By: kitaapati Date: 30 Jan 2008 14:49
Dear vidra,

Thanks much for your offer to step in with uploads of this invaluable treasure. I'd request you to plan on uploading the entire set. I'm sure there are others who would like you to do the same.

TIA.
Posted By: vidra Date: 30 Jan 2008 20:51
OK. If so, then by this weekend I will prepare all the archives starting with Vol 1, and from Monday I will start to repost them in tempo giusto, poco vivace.

Nevertheless, I already see that some of my archives are defective, too. Could someone please, for example, post CD 4 of Vol 14? In my archive I have two defects in it that obviously come from archive errors and not from that of the original.

By this weekend I will check the rest of my archive, and possibly I will ask you for more contributions as well.

(To al19753: I've received your pm, but I'm not able to reply, due to the more than defective pm system of Avax. Anyway, your message has also contributed to my decision to repost all the collection, inshallah.)

@vidra

I will upload full Vol.14 and post the links here.

I have downloaded Vol.1-20, so if any problems in your archives I can help out...
Posted By: chiang Date: 30 Jan 2008 23:09
Vidra, thank you very much for reuploading. However, as hardu already mentioned, the end of volume 13 archive is somehow corrupted, I get the same error and I'm not able to unrar the 4th CD. Can someone post CD 4 of vol. 13?

Also, I have volumes 1, 21, 26, 34-43, so if there are any further problems I can help.
Posted By: vidra Date: 31 Jan 2008 09:56
@ octron: Thank you very much for the reupload of Vol. 14. (It is enough if you upload CD4 of that Vol, for the rest of it is OK on my DVD.) I'm just zipping the other volumes, and will upload them within a few days. If I will have any problem with any other archive, I will let you know and will ask you to help me. Many thanks in advance!

@ chiang, hardu, noizone: Thanks for indicating the error. It seems that part14 was not uploaded correctly. The archive on my HD is OK (I have just unzipped it and it worked perfectly), so I think it will be enough if I upload just part14 again. I do it within an hour, so please check back soon.

@ noizone: Thank you for your pm and your generous advices on archiving! They will certainly help me a lot. (I'm sorry, but I cannot answer you in pm - Avax always sends me timeout error message.)

hi, vidra and other generous people here
to take the good part,

the incident with v13.part14.rar, brings another potentially problem:
now I realized that others original WellIThink posts- don't have recovery records.
of course, 1st thing is to test arch to the generation time-
(one way is to check the test box everytime you archive important things),
2nd is to include a recovery rec in any arch you create - for the transportation.

for many of us this is a life time collection,
greatest all time composer

Thank-you very much, both WellThink and vidra!
I saw this collection accumulating and didn't download it apace with its posting.
By the time I got around to it, I had only reached vol. 4 before the collection was deleted.
I suppose this page is the place to check for re-uploaded volumes.

Thanks again. Vidra, I appreciate the mirrors! Will you please continue you good efforts?

Dear vidra,

Thanks for your efforts at keeping tis upload alive. I have just downloaded Vol. 1 and it's problem-free.
However, I have had issues regarding Vol. 13. I re-downloaded after your second upload, but the problems
persist. When I try to un-RAR the downloaded files, I get CRC error for the following parts:
1, 4, 11, 12, 14.

THe problem affectcs CDs 1 and 4. Mostly, I have downloaded from rapidshare and zshare.

I'd like to hear from those who have had a problem-free download of Vol. 13 and which mirrors they used.

vidra, md5 signatures of uploads will help isolate where mistakes occur.

Hi,
I use rapidshare for Vol. 13 without problems.

Looking forward to get the other volumes.

Thanks a lot.
