“
"Though the flame was snuffed out too early, the Doors left an indelible footprint on the history of rock and roll with their blend of poetry, heady-but-heavy music, and high rock theater. Frontman Jim Morrison's live antics - which have become the stuff of legend - can be amply witnessed on this video tracking the Doors' 1968 European tour. Filmed in London, Frankfurt, Stockholm, and Amsterdam, this rare live footage is narrated by Grace Slick and Paul Kantner of the Jefferson Airplane, the Doors' opening band for that tour. Fantastic live performances of the tour de force "When the Music's Over," the antiwar "Unknown Soldier," the revolution-inciting "Five to One," and many others, are accompanied by firsthand anecdotes, making LIVE IN EUROPE an intriguing glimpse into the powerful, mysterious world of this seminal band."

The Police - Synchronicity [1989 MFSL UDCD 511] (1983)
EAC Image (WV+CUE+LOG) | 239 MB | Booklet & Covers (300 dpi) included Genre: Rock
Synchronicity is the last full-length studio recording from the Police, the final evolution of their sound, and the album that yielded their greatest success. It is a brilliant pop record, but it's something more, as well. The singles, particularly "Every Breath You Take," "King of Pain," and "Wrapped Around Your Finger," while pure gems by themselves, are an integral part of the album's musical and lyrical texture. As the title indicates, the album's intellectual content is inspired by C.G. Jung's psychosocial connecting principle and it manifests lyrically in some of the most evocative imagery Sting has ever created. Musically, the band defines a sonic space with arrangements that are often spare to the point of transparency. The songs are constructed from delicate arpeggios and eerie washes of guitar, sinuous keyboard lines, solid, repetitive bass figures, and the signature Stewart Copeland drum sound, all topped by Sting's voice moving through a wide range of pitch and sentiment. Synchronicity is a collection that creates and sustains a mood in the sensitive listener, a feeling that remains after the last note has died away. A benchmark album from a tremendously influential band, it will stand the test of time as a genuine classic.

Avant-garde tenor saxophonist Archie Shepp created a stir in 1977 when he recorded a set of hymns and folk melodies in melodic duets with pianist Horace Parlan. On February 6, 1980, he reunited with Parlan for a set of blues associated with Bessie Smith, and the following day, as a sort of sequel, Shepp played eight songs associated with Charlie Parker in collaboration with bassist Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen. Although never a bebopper, Shepp does surprisingly well on such tunes as "Moose the Mooche," "Ornithology," "Yardbird Suite" and "Confirmation," even if he makes the mistake of doubling on his erratic soprano during a few numbers. Archie Shepp pays tribute to Bird not by copying him, but by being creative and playing Parker's repertoire in his own sound. Recommended.

Blue Mitchell was always a consistent, lyrical, and pleasing trumpeter. Although not as significant during the 1960s as Lee Morgan and Freddie Hubbard (much less Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis), Mitchell had his own appealing sound and was a major asset on many modern mainstream dates. This four-CD limited-edition Mosaic box set collects Mitchell's first six Blue Note dates as a leader: Step Lightly, The Thing to Do, Down With It, Bring It Home to Me, Boss Horn, and Heads Up. Three albums are by his quintet, which included tenor saxophonist Junior Cook and usually the young pianist Chick Corea and was formed shortly after he left Horace Silver, and the three others are with larger groups, two of which have arrangements by Duke Pearson. Among the other key sidemen are tenor great Joe Henderson, altoist Leo Wright, baritonist Pepper Adams, and pianists Herbie Hancock and McCoy Tyner. There are just two previously unreleased cuts (both alternate takes), but most of the sets have been somewhat rare for years, and taken as a whole, the swinging hard bop and boogaloo performances are Blue Mitchell's finest recordings.
Recorded in Flagey's unsurpassable Studio N°4 in Brussels, here's the first CD of the new « Queen Elisabeth College of Music » collection in Fuga Libera's catalogue. The prestigious establishment could not have taken a better choice : Plamena Mangova, a pupil of Marina Kapatsinskaja, Dmitri Bashkirov and Abdel-Rahman El Bacha, is more than full of promise: her talent bursts forth in an incredible way in this magnificent program devoted to Dmitri Shostakovich. Two masterworks are here brought to light, thanks to a mixture of strength and sweetness, of technical mastery and lyricism which are the marks of the true great ones. In May 2007, Plamena has been 2d laureate of the International Queen Elisabeth Music Competition of Belgium.
