AvaxHome 3.0 Help F.A.Q. for submitting news
A detailed description for how to submit news items using the new AvaxHome 3.0 Create news entry form.
You must be signed-in/logged-in to post news.
These instructions reflect the state of the software as of 21 March 2006.

News uri-name
News uri-name (Required): Internal page name used by Avax for your news.
This field uniquely identifies your page in the Avax database and becomes part of the http:// address. Character set is restricted to lowercase letters a-z, numeric numbers 0-9, and the special characters underscore "_", backslash "\", and hyphen "-". In short form: [a-z0-9_\-]. No spaces or blanks are permitted.
Choose a name that is descriptive for your news item. For example, "my_music" is too general and too vague; better would be "joe_lopez_y_los_fabulosos" or "joe_pass_six-string_santa_1992".
News name
News name (Required): Title or Name to identify your news.
This will appear at the top of your news item for the viewer to read.
For example,
My super music download

News promoute
News promoute (Required): Short description of your news item that will display in the category search pages. (This is Avax typo, should be promote.)
Include here a brief description of your news item, a sentence or two, along with a picture. Do not include download links. Note that the Avax moderators will always require a topically relevant image with your post.
To insert a picture, mouse over the icon bar to the Insert image button (looks like a mountain range) and click it. This will bring up an Insert Image dialog box in a new window. Type in the URL or Avax-id of the image, or select the Upload box to browse for an image file on your own computer. If you are uploading a file from your own computer or a URL, first click the Send button to perform the upload; when this finishes the Avax-id number of the the image file will be displayed in the first field. Click OK to insert the image into your description. Note that for security reasons all images must reside on the Avax server.
Text effects can be accomplished using other buttons on the icon bar. Mousing over the buttons will pop up a short description of what each button does. If you can't see all the buttons, try reducing the zoom level in your browser.
Note: Unlike the previous version of the Avax software, what you include here does not appear on the News text page, the detail page for your news. So if you want images in both the short and detailed description of your news post, I suggest you copy what you write here and paste it into the News text section that follows.
News text
News text (Required): Detailed description of your news item that will display
on its own page when a viewer clicks read more.
Note: I suggest you copy what you wrote in the above News promoute section and paste it here. The two sections are separate and there is no automatic "cutting" as there was with the previous software.
Include here a detailed description of your news item.
- This is an example the Insert a pointed list function.
- Text effects can be accomplished using buttons on the icon bar. Mousing over the buttons will pop up a short description of what each button does. For example, to center text, highlight the text to be centered and click the Align center button. Although it is possible to get very fancy here, this just makes more work for the Avax servers which are already overburdened. So please keep it relatively simple.
- To insert additional picture(s), mouse over the icon bar to the Insert image button (looks like a mountain range) and click it. This will bring up an Insert Image dialog box in a new window. Type in the URL or Avax-id of the image, or select the Upload box to browse for an image file on your own computer. If you are uploading a file from your own computer or a URL, first click the Send button to perform the upload; when this finishes the Avax-id number of the image file will be displayed in the first field. Click OK to insert the image into your description. Note that for security reasons all images must reside on the Avax server.
- To insert a clickable download link, click the Insert an url link button (looks like a chain). A dialog box will ask you to enter the URL address, type it in or paste it from Rapidshare, and click OK. Repeat this for each file to be downloaded as part of your news item.
- This is an example of Quoted text:
“ This is quoted text. ”
- The backslash character \" doesn't seem to show up all the time. It appears to be used as an escape character for the double quote mark in quoted text. Not sure what's going on with it.
News original uri
News original uri (Optional): Original URL source of your news item. (Avax typo, uri should read url.)
For example, you could put a book publishers or an Amazon.com http:// address here to point the reader to the original URL or for more information about your news item. This will become a clickable link when your news item is displayed on the category search page: original news :: read more.
Language
Language: Using the drop-down box, select as appropriate, if necessary.
Display in categories
Display in categories (Required): Which category should the Avax software list your news item in.
Check as appropriate. You should select only one category, the one that best fits your news item. Select more than one only if you have a special reason for doing so.
For categories that have one or more subcategories such as Music->VideoClips or E-Books->Deutch, select at least one subcategory in addition to the parent category. (I've only test this for the Music category, but if the subcategory VideoClips is not also selected, your item will not be listed in the Music category when a viewer clicks on the Music button on the top and bottom of every Avax page.)

When you are finished, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Preview button in the lower right corner. Make any necessary changes, and when you are finished and ready to submit your news, click the Create button. If there are errors they will be indicated at the top of the page, in red text. Correct as required.
If after pressing Create you get an Error 502 or Error 504 instead of a confirmation screen, your news item has not been processed. In this situation use the Back function in your browser to redisplay the Create news page and press the Create button again.
When your news submission has been accepted, it will go into the moderation-waiting news queue awaiting action by the Avax moderator. You can click on moderation-waiting news to see the items waiting. You can also edit your own news items that are waiting in this queue.


If you want to be prepared for a possible 502 error when posting news...and you don't want to bother having the whole post copied to a text file, just use A.I Roboform. When you have filled in the whole post and are ready to click submit, just bring up the roboform window and tell it to save forms. It will save everything in the right places so if you get an error page and have to start again you just get the post news page up then roboform can 'Fill Forms' and hey presto! Its finished!

I used this Posting-Guide exactly, and posted the following three ebooks in the relavant section:
1-Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment 2006
2-Family Medicine 2006
3-The Art of SQL
The first book was released in the eBooks' section after Moderator's View, however the rest of the two books were not released. I don't know what would have been wrong with these two books. but as far as my posts
are concerned, I am pretty sure that these posts were according to all the set rules.
I had also PMed Avax about this problem, showing my interest to know if I was doing anything wrong, so that I should not repeat it again when I plan to post any more book. Unfortunately, I have not received reply of my PM yet.
So I'll request to the senior members to please help me to know about the possibility of "Why my posted topics won't get released in ebooks section after Moderator's View"
I can still see both of these topics in "My News"
Any idea, plz help.

None of the moderators stays online for 24 hours a day :-) Together with the umber of personal mails received, it might take a bit to answer all of them.
Of course it would have helped to tell WHICH publications you have problems with. So, just based on your username, this is all I can see now:

If these are the 2 publications, a personal mail will be no help. For second one, just add a picture and try again, for first one please check the given URL. If there is a need for a repost, try to contact Alexpal.
Please be aware that the index-pages of Avaxhome are no longer created in realtime. It can take up to 1 hour until your activated publication shows up on them.

PLEASE use the SEARCH function on the right side of each page to check what you want to publish.
Forget my above sentence about adding picture. You also did not check for that book. Please look here:

Besides above addition to the FAQ to take care for the new AvaxHome 3.0 software, the RULES of the former FAQ do still fit.
"The following are forbidden on the site:

- Creating the new publication without searching it on a site before. Search field is on the right side under the calendar ("SEARCH ON THE SERVER"). Of course, repeating publication (aka repost) is possible (and welcome), if the link in previous publication does not work (dead)."

And yes, hehe, the info about the editor on the new temporary FAQ is also no longer valid. AvaxHome 3.0 software is still under heavy construction, a hard time for all of us.

Can happen sometimes. Hint: use quotation marks to limit the results, for example "Family Medicine 2006" gave a direct hit, while without quoting you will get a big list.
My general hint for questions about moeration and ebooks for english speaking users is: Contact Alexpal. He's a nice guy (most times, hehe) and when he is online he will help you quick. Avax is also vry nice, but as you can guess, he is flooded by mails about each and every thing.

How should I search for "The Art of SQL"????
I searched for it using all terms, but every time the result was same, that is, zero.
But the book does exists in the database, as U've mentioned its URL in one of your replies here.

Hehe. Yes. A way to have users concentrate to foumulate short and precise mails :-))
About 3 days ago this limit somehow apperead after a software update. I informed TDz and he is investigating it.

A very good question :-) A currently undocumented "feature" of the search engine is to ignore 3-letter searches to avoid too heavy load on the database.
In your case I would suggest to search for the author's name.

The thing is, when I posted the first item it showed in the Home section plus the sections that I had selected for it. After I edited some text in it the post stopped apearing in Home and only showed in E-Books.
In the second case I did the editing just after the post (it surely hadn't been reviewed by the time) and this post never showed once in Home.
The funny thing is that when I try to edit the posts again and attach them to Home section the checkbox isn't enabled to do so.
So my question is this:
Is this a bug or is there a determined criteria by wich the posts show (or not show) in the Home section? I've always thought that every post was listed in Home and the other sections were a form of specializing the scan of the site pages. Am I wrong?
Your answear and time would be greatly apprecieated.

It's not a bug and has nothing to do with software. In this case you deal with real persons, and different persons do have different views.
There is a team of moderators at AvaxHome to handle all that high traffic. When you put up a new publication, a moderator checks it and when everything is OK he confirms it to go public, with some minor bugs, sometimes a moderator might edit it, otherwise he might refuse it. When he confirms it to go public, he decides if it will additional to normal categories also be linked to the manin pages.
Whenever you edit a publication, it also needs to be confirmed again by a moderator.
In your case you had 2 different moderators. The first one decided to put it on main page also, the second decided not to do so. Or a bit sarcastic: If you edit again, it might agin be confirmed for main pages :-) I wrote: MIGHT. If people abuse this game, it might also be deleted or refused :-))
What some people still not understand: The main pages are just a PART of AvaxHome publications. Many great stuff can be found which is not on main pages. It can depend on many things. If for 12 hours no one has upped any music album, even a very bad one might appear on main pages. If 50 people posted books, the next 2 or 5 might not be on main pages, no matter of quality.
You see, it's a complicated topic. depending on many things, INCLUDING personal view of current moderator.
