Lattice Gauge Theories: An Introduction (World Scientific Lecture Notes in Physics) by Heinz J. Rothe
World Scientific | 3rd Edition | June 30, 2005 | Pages: 608 pages | ISBN: 9812560629 | 20.8Mb | PDF

This book provides a broad introduction to gauge field theories formulated on a space-time lattice, and in particular of QCD. It serves as a textbook for advanced graduate students, and also provides the reader with the necessary analytical and numerical techniques to carry out research on his own. Although the analytic calculations are sometimes quite demanding and go beyond an introduction, they are discussed in sufficient detail, so that the reader can fill in the missing steps. The book also introduces the reader to interesting problems which are currently under intensive investigation. Whenever possible, the main ideas are exemplified in simple models, before extending them to realistic theories. Special emphasis is placed on numerical results obtained from pioneering work. These are displayed in numerous figures.

P. Steinmann, G. A. Maugin, "Mechanics of Material Forces (Advances in Mechanics and Mathematics)"
Springer | 1st edition | September 28, 2005 | Pages: 337 pages | ISBN: 0387262601 | 12.1Mb | PDF

This book covers new theoretical and numerical developments in the mechanics of material forces. Conceptually speaking, common continuum mechanics in the sense of Newton which gives rise to the notion of spatial (mechanical) forces considers the response to variations of spatial placements of “physical particles with respect to the ambient space, whereas continuum mechanics in the sense of Eshelby which gives rise to the notion of material (configurational) forces is concerned with the response to variations of material placements of “physical particles with respect to the ambient material.
Modern Lens Design: A Resource Manual - Warren J. Smith, Inc. Genesee Optics Software

Warren J. Smith, Inc. Genesee Optics Software, "Modern Lens Design: A Resource Manual"
McGraw-Hill Professional | 1st Edition | July 1, 1992 | Pages: 471 pages | ISBN: 0070591784 | 3.92Mb | Djvu

Published in 1964 and long out of print, copies of Cox’s A System of Optical Design are covered by experienced lens designers simply because a small section of the book features lens design examples. Such examples are notoriously difficult to find and the hundred-odd pages of Cox’s book that include them are widely photocopied and constantly referred to by designers in the know. Finally, lens designers have a better place to turn. The most complete and authoritative work of its kind ever published, Modern Lens Design includes over 400 pages of proven lens design examples for both commercial and military applications. A perfect complement to Smith’s best-selling Modern Optical Engineering, it features designs of everything from camera lenses to laser collimators.

Roland Winston, Juan C. Minano, Pablo G. Benitez, "Nonimaging Optics"
Academic Press | December 22, 2004 | Pages: 512 pages | ISBN: 0127597514 | 6.83Mb | PDF

From its inception nearly 30 years ago, the optical subdiscipline now referred to as nonimaging optics, has experienced dramatic growth. The term nonimaging optics is concerned with applications where imaging formation is not important but where effective and efficient collection , concentration, transport and distribution of light energy is - i.e. solar energy conversion, signal detection, illumination optics, measurement and testing. This book will incorporate the substantial developments of the past decade in this field.

Feynman’s Thesis: A New Approach to Quantum Theory by Laurie M. Brown, Richard Phillips Feynman
World Scientific Publishing | August 30, 2005 | Pages: 144 pages | ISBN: 9812563660 | 4.22Mb | PDF

Richard Feynman’s never previously published doctoral thesis formed the heart of much of his brilliant and profound work in theoretical physics. Entitled “The Principle of Least Action in Quantum Mechanics,” its original motive was to quantize the classical action-at-a-distance electrodynamics. Because that theory adopted an overall space–time viewpoint, the classical Hamiltonian approach used in the conventional formulations of quantum theory could not be used, so Feynman turned to the Lagrangian function and the principle of least action as his points of departure. The result was the path integral approach, which satisfied — and transcended — its original motivation, and has enjoyed great success in renormalized quantum field theory, including the derivation of the ubiquitous Feynman diagrams for elementary particles.
