Verified Synthesis of Zeolitic Materials
Elsevier Science| 2001-06-01 | ISBN: 0444507035 | 272 pages | PDF | 10,3 MB

Zeolite synthesis is an active field of research. As long as this continues, new phases will be discovered and new techniques for preparing existing phases will appear. This edition of Verified Synthesis of Zeolitic Materials contains all the recipes from the first edition plus 24 new recipes. Five new introductory articles have been included plus those from the first edition, some of which have been substantially revised. The XRD patterns have been recorded using different instrument settings from those in the first edition and are intended to conform to typical X-ray diffraction practice. In most cases, only the XRD pattern for the productas synthesised is printed here. The exceptions are those phases which show marked changes in the XRD pattern upon calcination.

Encapsulation and Controlled Release Technologies in Food Systems
Wiley-Blackwell | 2007-07-27| ISBN:0813828554| 256 pages | PDF | 2,3 MB

In Encapsulation and Controlled Release Technologies in Food Systems, editor Lakkis has gathered a highly respected collection of expert contributors from industry and academia to highlight recent innovations in encapsulation and controlled release technologies in food systems. Unlike most recent publications which dealt exclusively with theoretical aspects of these technologies, this volume focuses mainly on devising effective and innovative applications in food systems in which these delivery vehicles operate. In addition, the book provides some emphasis on new opportunities that may arise from the development of new materials for the design and fabrication of delivery vehicles and carriers.

Trans Fatty Acids
Wiley-Blackwell | 2007-12-01 | ISBN: 1405156910 | 256 pages | PDF | 2,3 MB

Trans fatty acids (TFAs) have been used for many years to impart desirable physical characteristics to fats and fat blends used in food manufacturing. However, clinical trials and epidemiological studies conducted over the last thirty years have shown that TFAs can increase “bad” cholesterol levels in the blood while reducing “good” cholesterol. Accordingly, they are also linked with increased risks of coronary heart disease, thrombosis and strokes. For this reason, the food industry has been obliged to find alternatives to TFAs, thus enabling it to meet the presumed consumer demand for “low” or “no” trans fats products. The issue is becoming more and more pressing. For example, US labelling regulations now require that food manufacturers state the trans fat content of their products on the packaging.

Accelerating New Food Product Design and Development
Wiley-Blackwell | 2007-03-30 | ISBN: 081380809X | 400 pages | PDF | 1,3 MB

To compete in today's marketplace, food product developers are under pressure to create innovative new products at a time when there are demands on them to do more with less of everything. In Accelerating New Food Product Design and Development, a group of seasoned food industry business professionals and academics show today’s food scientists, technologists, and product developers the contemporary R&D processes they need to maximize speed, quality, and efficiency.

Food Waste to Animal Feed
Wiley-Blackwell | 2000-12-27 | ISBN: 0813825407 | 298 pages | PDF | 1,3 MB

The magnitude of the food-waste disposal problem cannot be understated. Utilisation of food waste is of concern to the food processing industry, consumers, environmentalists, and regulators of handling and disposal systems. Food waste is not consistent in quality, is usually high in moisture content, and is only available locally. This book focuses on the challenges of utilising both wet and/or processed food waste. The regulatory environment relating to food waste, the perspective of the end-users, and practical use as animal feed is also discussed. One of the goals of this publication, other than to give a clear explanation of the subject of food waste and its uses as animal feed, is to stimulate a need for research.

Atheism and Theism

J. J. C. Smart & J. J. Haldane, "Atheism and Theism" (Great Debates in Philosophy)
Blackwell Publishing | 2nd edition (2003) | English | ISBN 0631232591 | 287 pages | PDF | 3.96 MB

The issue of whether or not there is a God is one of the oldest and most widely disputed philosophical questions. It is a debate that spreads far across the range of philosophical questions about the status of science, the nature of mind, the character of good and evil, the epistemology of experience and testimony, and so on. In this book two philosophers, each committed to unambiguous versions of belief and disbelief, debate the central issues of atheism and theism.

Thinking without Words (Philosophy of Mind Series)
Oxford University Press | 2003-03-27 | ISBN: 0195159691 | 248 pages | PDF | 14,3 MB

Thinking without Words provides a challenging new theory of the nature of non-linguistic thought. Many scientific disciplines treat non-linguistic creatures as thinkers, explaining their behavior in terms of their thoughts about themselves and about the environment. But this theorizing has proceeded without any clear account of the types of thinking available to non-linguistic creatures. One consequence of this is that ascriptions of thoughts to non-linguistic creatures have frequently been held to be metaphorical and not to be taken at face value. Bermudez offers a conceptual framework for treating human infants and non-human animals as genuine thinkers. Whereas existing discussions of thought at the non-linguistic level have concentrated on how such thoughts might be physically realized, Bermudez approaches the problem by considering what is required in explaining

Photoperiodism in Plants, Second Edition
428 pages | Academic Press; 2 edition | January 15, 1997 | 0126884900 | PDF | 25 Mb

Photoperiodism is the response to the length of the day that enables living organisms to adapt to seasonal changes in their environment as well as latitudinal variation. As such, it is one of the most significant andcomplex aspects of the interaction between plants and their environment and is a major factor controlling their growth and development. As the new and powerful technologies of molecular genetics are brought to bear on photoperiodism, it becomes particularly important to place new work in the context of the considerable amount of physiological information which already exists on the subject. This innovative book will be of interest to a wide range of plant scientists, from those interested in fundamental plant physiology and molecular biology to agronomists and crop physiologists.
