Springer | 2005-07-15 | ISBN: 3540245219 | 229 pages | PDF | 11,5 MB

Production planning problems containing special characteristics from process industries are addressed in this book. The main subject is the development of mathematical programming models that allow to model production plans which are not disrupted by discretization of time. However, discrete time models are used as a basis and are subsequently enhanced to include aspects of time continuity. Their integration is achieved by different building blocks which may be combined freely according to the specific planning situation at hand. The primary area of application of these kinds of models are process industries.

Supermodularity and Complementarity
Princeton University Press | 1998-04-13 | ISBN: 0691032440 | 312 pages | PDF | 1,4 MB

The economics literature is replete with examples of monotone comparative statics; that is, scenarios where optimal decisions or equilibria in a parameterized collection of models vary monotonically with the parameter. Most of these examples are manifestations of complementarity, with a common explicit or implicit theoretical basis in properties of a super-modular function on a lattice. Supermodular functions yield a characterization for complementarity and extend the notion of complementarity to a general setting that is a natural mathematical context for studying complementarity and monotone comparative statics. Concepts and results related to supermodularity and monotone comparative statics constitute a new and important formal step in the long line of economics literature on complementarity.

Positive Definite Matrices (Princeton Series in Applied Mathematics)

Positive Definite Matrices (Princeton Series in Applied Mathematics)
Princeton University Press | 2006-12-18 | ISBN: 0691129185 | 264 pages | PDF | 1,4 MB

This book represents the first synthesis of the considerable body of new research into positive definite matrices. These matrices play the same role in noncommutative analysis as positive real numbers do in classical analysis. They have theoretical and computational uses across a broad spectrum of disciplines, including calculus, electrical engineering, statistics, physics, numerical analysis, quantum information theory, and geometry. Through detailed explanations and an authoritative and inspiring writing style, Rajendra Bhatia carefully develops general techniques that have wide applications in the study of such matrices.

Euler's Gem: The Polyhedron Formula and the Birth of Topology
Princeton University Press | 2008 | ISBN: 0691126771 | 332 pages | PDF | 12,4 MB

Leonhard Euler's polyhedron formula describes the structure of many objects--from soccer balls and gemstones to Buckminster Fuller's buildings and giant all-carbon molecules. Yet Euler's formula is so simple it can be explained to a child. Euler's Gem tells the illuminating story of this indispensable mathematical idea.

Semi-active Suspension Control provides an overview of vehicle ride control employing smart semi-active damping systems (controlled dissipative elements which only require low energy input). These systems are able to tune the amount of damping in response to measured vehicle-ride and handling indicators.

John Wiley and Sons | 1996-01 | ISBN: 0133745627 | 250 pages | PDF | 2,4 MB

My first introduction to abstract algebra has been by this book and I've found it to be an excellent choice. It is a concise book with lots of content. Topics are discussed very fluidly. One really gets the essence of the topics with a lot of insight. The book is simply too elegant. Another great asset of the book is its high quality exercises. Most of the exercises are difficult, nontrivial and provide further insight. This is the only abstract algebra book I've seen, but I don't think any other book could surpass this one in the quality of treatment.

Kanban control systems bear a great potential to significantly improve operations. A company may reap the full benefits of kanban control only after determining an optimal or near-optimal system configuration. To do that, methods are needed to evaluate the performance and operating costs of individual system configurations. We propose an innovative construction-kit approach that enables us to build stochastic analytical models of a large class of single- and multi-product kanban systems. The presented construction-kit approach may be extended and augmented in various directions.
