Bioinspired Chemistry for Energy: A Workshop Summary to the Chemical Sciences Roundtable
National Academies Press | 2008-04-07 | Pages: 68 pages | ISBN: 030911487X | 13.8Mb | PDF

Faced with the steady rise in energy costs, dwindling fossil fuel supplies, and the need to maintain a healthy environment - exploration of alternative energy sources is essential for meeting energy needs. Biological systems employ a variety of efficient ways to collect, store, use, and produce energy. By understanding the basic processes of biological models, scientists may be able to create systems that mimic biomolecules and produce energy in an efficient and cost effective manner. On May 14-15, 2007 a group of chemists, chemical engineers, and others from academia, government, and industry participated in a workshop sponsored by the Chemical Sciences Roundtable to explore how bioinspired chemistry can help solve some of the important energy issues the world faces today. The workshop featured presentations and discussions on the current energy challenges and how to address them, with emphasis on both the fundamental aspects and the robust implementation of bioinspired chemistry for energy.

Artificial Neural Networks for the Modelling and Fault Diagnosis of Technical Processes
Springer| 2008 | ISBN: 3540798714 |206 pages | PDF | 2 MB

The book is mainly focused on investigating the properties of locally recurrent neural networks, developing training procedures for them and their application to the modelling and fault diagnosis of non-linear dynamic processes and plants. The material included in the monograph results from research that has been carried out at the Institute of Control and Computation Engineering of the University of Zielona Góra, Poland, for the last eight years in the area of the modelling of non-linear dynamic processes as well as fault diagnosis of industrial processes.

It is now possible to enter a chemistry degree course at many UK universities without any formal maths training beyond age 16. Addressing this deficiency requires students to take additional mathematics training when entering university, yet the relevance of maths to chemistry is often poorly appreciated by chemistry students. In addition, many service courses are either too abstract, or aimed at physicists and engineers, for students of chemistry, who are not inclined to study mathematical techniques per se and do not make the connection between the maths they are taught and the chemistry they want to study.

Succeed in your course with the help of this proven best-seller! John McMurry's ORGANIC CHEMISTRY is consistently praised as the most clearly written book available for the course. In John McMurry's words: "I wrote this book because I love writing. I get great pleasure and satisfaction from taking a complicated subject, turning it around until I see it clearly from a new angle, and then explaining it in simple words." Through his lucid writing and ability to show the beauty and logic of organic chemistry, McMurry makes learning enjoyable. The highest compliment that can be given to a chemistry book applies to McMurry: It works!
