Programming 32-bit Microcontrollers in C - Exploring the PIC32 - Lucio Di, Elseiver
600 pages | Newnes (April 1, 2008) | ISBN: 0750687096 | PDF | 5,2 Mb

The FIRST book on Microchip's latest and greatest 32-bit architecture: the PIC32 written by a true Microchip insider! The new 32-bit microcontrollers bring the promise of more speed and more performance while offering an unprecedented level of compatibility with existing 8 and 16-bit PIC microcontrollers. In sixteen engaging chapters, using a parallel track to his previous title dedicated to 16-bit programming, the author puts all these claims to test while offering a gradual introduction to the development and debugging of embedded control applications in C. Author Lucio Di Jasio, a PIC and embedded control expert, offers unique insight into the new 32-bit architecture while developing a number of projects of growing complexity. Experienced PIC users and newcomers to the field alike will benefit from the text's many thorough examples which demonstrate how to nimbly side-step common obstacles, solve real-world design problems efficiently and optimize code using the new PIC32 features and peripheral set.

Max Domeika, "Software Development for Embedded Multi-core Systems: A Practical Guide Using Embedded Intel® Architecture"
Newnes | ISBN: 0750685395 | April 23, 2008 | 440 pages | PDF | 3MB

The multicore revolution has reached the deployment stage in embedded systems ranging from small ultramobile devices to large telecommunication servers. The transition from single to multicore processors, motivated by the need to increase performance while conserving power, has placed great responsibility on the shoulders of software engineers. In this new embedded multicore era, the toughest task is the development of code to support more sophisticated systems. This book provides embedded engineers with solid grounding in the skills required to develop software targeting multicore processors. Within the text, the author undertakes an in-depth exploration of performance analysis, and a close-up look at the tools of the trade. Both general multicore design principles and processor-specific optimization techniques are revealed. Detailed coverage of critical issues for multicore employment within embedded systems is provided, including the Threading Development Cycle, with discussions of analysis, design, development, debugging, and performance tuning of threaded applications. Software development techniques engendering optimal mobility and energy efficiency are highlighted through multiple case studies, which provide practical "how-to" advice on implementing the latest multicore processors. Finally, future trends are discussed, including terascale, speculative multithreading, transactional memory, interconnects, and the software-specific implications of these looming architectural developments.

"PIC'n Up The Pace" is an intermediate level applications guide covering Microchip Technology's PIC Microcontrollers. Serial communication as a means of transferring data between PIC's and peripheral chips and also between two or more PIC's is described. Use of the 93C46 serial EEPROM is detailed as an example. Since we live in an analog world, A/D and D/A are discussed with several methods illustrated for each. Conditioning signals from sensors with an analog voltage output is described. Interfacing PIC controlled systems with humans requires some math, binary to decimal conversion and vice versa, alphanumeric LCD intefacing and scanning keypads. Single wire serial communication with a PIC-controlled LCD module which can be built by the reader is included. A digital thermometer example projects brings these topics together as an example. Finally, PIC16C84/PIC16F84 data EEPROM memory, program memory paging and locating tables in program memory are discussed.

Computer vision is everywhere -- in security systems, manufacturing inspection systems, medical image analysis, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and more. It helps robot cars drive by themselves, stitches Google maps and Google Earth together, checks the pixels on your laptop's LCD screen, and makes sure the stitches in your shirt are OK. OpenCV provides an easy-to-use computer vision infrastructure along with a comprehensive library containing more than 500 functions that can run vision code in real time. With Learning OpenCV, any developer or hobbyist can get up and running with the framework quickly, whether it's to build simple or sophisticated vision applications. The book includes: A thorough introduction to OpenCV Getting input from cameras Transforming images Shape matching Pattern recognition, including face detection Segmenting images Tracking and motion in 2 and 3 dimensions Machine learning algorithms

The rapid rise of PC-based cameras has lead to the enormous growth of software applications that use real-time video programming. These applications include video conferencing, computer games, scientific research, automated security and surveillance, industrial inspection, and Web cameras. Previously, developers had to search through manufacturer manuals or research papers in computer vision or image processing to learn how to program devices for these applications.
