History and the Supernatural in Medieval England
Cambridge University Press | Pages: 288 | 2008-02-04 | ISBN: 0521802555 | 4 MB
This is a fascinating study of religious culture in England from 1050 to 1250. Drawing on the wealth of material about religious belief and practice that survives in the chronicles, Carl Watkins explores accounts of signs, prophecies, astrology, magic, beliefs about death and the miraculous and demonic. He challenges some of the prevailing assumptions about religious belief, questioning in particular the attachment of many historians to terms such as 'clerical' and 'lay', 'popular' and 'elite', 'Christian' and 'pagan' as explanatory categories. The evidence of the chronicles is also set in its broader context through explorations of miracle collections, penitential manuals, exempla and sermons. The book traces shifts in the way the supernatural was conceptualized by learned writers and the ways in which broader patterns of belief evolved during this period. This original account sheds important new light on belief during a period in which the religious landscape was transformed.

Heraldry & Regalia of War - Beekman History of the World Wars Library
Bernard Fitzsimons, editor | Purnell's History of the World Wars | Beekman House, New York | 1973 | ISBN 0517130866 | 160 pages | PDF | 96.5 MB
The heraldry of war--the vivid, colourful display of uniforms, medals, badges, and banners--has always been a heavy inducement to men to take up arms. But their main function is neither to confer glamour on their wearers, nor are they for mere empty display. There is, in the most sophisticated of men, something of the primitive. Modern man, whether in the thick of battle or in one of those situations of complete isolation that occur so frequently in modern war--deep in the bowels of a warship in action, in a trench under shellfire, or in the cockpit of an aeroplane with enemy aircraft in sight--needs a sense of identity with country and comrades. The cross section of uniforms, medals, and insignia contained in this book can, then, be regarded as something more than a collection of colourful devices and complex designs.

Commanding the Red Army's Sherman Tanks: The World War II Memoirs of Hero of the Soviet Union Dmitriy Loza By Dmitriy Loza (Author) and James F. Gebhardt
University of Nebraska Press | Oct. 1996 | ISBN: 0803229208 | 173 Pages | HTML & Pics in RAR | 1,1Mb
Hero of the Soviet Union Dmitriy Loza has carefully crafted his World War II experiences with American-provided Sherman tanks into a highly readable memoir. Between the fall of 1943 and August 1945, Loza fought in the Ukraine, Romania, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Austria. He commanded a tank battalion during much of this period and had three Shermans shot out from under him. Commanding The Red Army's Sherman Tanks is the first available detailed examination of the Red Army's exploitation of American war material during World War II and provides firsthand testimony on tactical command decisions, group objectives and how they were accomplished. It took the fall of the Soviet Empire before first-hand information like this could become part of military studies materials here in the west. James Gebhard's translation has made Dmitriy Loza's military memoirs easily accessible to both military professionals, World War II buffs, and nonspecialist general readers alike.

Concentration Camp Majdanek: A Historical and Technical Study (Holocaust Handbook, 5)
Theses & Dissertations Press | Pages: 316 | 2003-06 | ISBN: 0967985633 | 9 MB
Little scientific investigation has been directed toward the camp Lublin-Majdanek in central Poland, even though orthodox Holocaust sources claim that between 50,000 and over a million Jews were murdered there. Until the appearance of Concentration Camp Majdanek, the only works on Majdanek were authored by historians serving or trained under Poland’s communist regime. Mattogno and Graf have filled this glaring research gap with a monumental study that expertly dissects and repudiates the myth of homicidal gas chambers at Majdanek. Based on exhaustive research of the primary sources and of the physical remainders of the former concentration camp, this book strikes a death blow to the lie of homicidal gassings at Majdanek. The authors’ investigations lead to unambiguous and unsparing conclusions about the real history and the actual functioning of the camp which thoroughly destroy the official theses without excusing the abuses tolerated by Majdanek’s wartime commanders. With Concentration Camp Majdanek, Mattogno and Graf have once again produced a careful, methodical investigative work that sets the standard for all other treatments of Majdanek.

The Central Construction Office of the Waffen-SS and Police Auschwitz: Organization, Responsibilities, Activities
Theses & Dissertations Press| Pages: 177 | 2005-06 | ISBN: 1591480132 | 6 MB
Ever since the Russian authorities granted western historians access to their state archives, the files of the Central Construction Office of the Waffen-SS and Police Auschwitz, stored in a Moscow archive, have attracted the attention of scholars who are researching the history of this most infamous of all German war-time camps. Despite this interest, next to nothing was really known about this very important office, which was responsible for the planning and construction of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp complex. This emphasizes the importance of the present study by Carlo Mattogno, which not only sheds light into this hitherto hidden aspect of this camp's history, but also provides a deep understanding of the organization, tasks, and procedures of this office. This pioneering study, which is based on mostly hitherto unpublished Moscow documents, is indispensable for all those, who wish to avoid misinterpretations of Auschwitz documents, as they are frequently made by many Holocaust historians.
