This book is all meat and cuts right to the point - modeling and texturing game weapons like a professional. Written by Christian Chang, weapons modeler on America's Army and now at EA, this book delivers what the reader wants. Starting with a discussion on customizing your modeling application for ease of use, the book emphasizes the importance of employing professional techniques when setting up your project. From there, the chapters concentrate on creating specific weapons - from a samurai sword to a modern high-velocity, fully-automatic machine gun - in a step-by-step progression from simple to complex. Each weapon is modeled, UV mapped, optimized, and finally textured for realism.

The player who uses the Sicilian, as I do, as his main defense to 1.e4 must of necessity confront the Smith-Morra Gambit. It is important to take this gambit seriously: consider the well known case of Grandmaster and world Champion ship Candidate Svetozar Gligoric, who gave up a Gambit Accepted draw to the virtually unknow Pokojowczyk in 1971 (see the notes Game 2).
Not wishing to share Gligoric's grief, I have seriously studied the black counters to the Gambit for twenty years. I believe my results speak for themselves: six wins, no draws, no losses. I defeated such opponents as current US Champion Patrick Wolff (though the game was played long before he won that title), IM Jim Rizzitano, and various amateur gambit specialist. Also, in a game specially played for this book, I defeated my Zarkov chess computer. If I learned one thing from these games, it is that black must attack. Passive play may allow White to work up adequate pressure for the pawn. Black must strive to take over the initiative at the earliest point. ~ Tim Taylor.

Star Frontiers was my first game purchase. I shelled out ten
bucks and had no idea exactly what I had bought. I knew it
was a game, I knew it looked cool, but I had never played a
role-playing game before and wasn’t entirely certain what to
expect.

International Master Yakov Estrin, 7th World Correspondence Chess Champion, has devoted a lifetime to study the Open Games. In this work he presents a convincing case for players to adopt gambit play. "Only by playing gambits will the chessplayer begin to understand that getting active positions, with the possibility of landing combinative shots, will compensate him for the material sacrificed." Estrin presents concepts and lines of play in every major opening. He provides many practical illustration, and the number of examples given from his own games clearly shows that he practices what he advocates. 115 diagrams aid the in the following the analysis. If you don't play these lines, your opponent will!.
